About the Role

Our Client has a large and highly experienced family department with an excellent reputation for expertise and client care. Both the firm and department have achieved great financial success in recent years and we are currently looking to recruit a Family Paralegal to work alongside an experienced Partner at their Harrogate office.

The role will involve assisting and supporting our fee earners with a busy and varied private family caseload so we are looking for someone organised and efficient with a strong sense of commercial acumen. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role, however it is hoped that the paralegal will take on more responsibility and variety of work as their knowledge and experience increases with ongoing on-the-job training and supervision.

KEY TASKS

Assisting fee earners with matters at all stages, from file opening to archiving in accordance with office and accounts procedures.

Obtaining and preparing file documentation.

Keeping clients and other parties updated with progress of matters.

Billing files and obtaining monies due to the firm from the clients and other parties.

Maintaining legal knowledge and skills.

Contribute to maintaining and improving office procedures.

Contributing to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.

Any other duties which from time to time are required by the firm.

Requirements

KEY SKILLS – ESSENTIAL

  • Professional and friendly client care.

  • Ability to work accurately in accordance with agreed procedures.

  • Ability to organise and prioritise work, under supervision, to meet clients’ expectations and matter deadlines.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

  • Ability to confidently present and argue a case orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work on own initiative and as a member of a team.

  • Ability to deal with enquiries in a customer-friendly and effective manner

  • Proficient IT skills


QUALIFICATIONS

 Upper 2nd Class degree, preferably in law or with GDL (desirable, not essential)


EXPERIENCE

  • Paralegal experience in family law, either private or legal aid, preferably running a small caseload.


OTHER

 Flexible and ‘can do’ attitude

  • Excellent written communication to produce documents for the clients, other side and third parties

  • Clear and confident spoken communication to resolve telephone enquiries.

  • Ability to promote the image of the firm.
